Job Announcement: Elder Advocate

Position: Elder Advocate

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Professional

Status: Nonexempt

Position Summary:

The Wellness Days for Hmong Elders is a program aimed at mitigating the social isolation of Hmong elders by providing exercising, survival English training, and health and mental education. The Elder Advocate coordinates the weekly Wellness Days session by collaborating with community partners such as the City-County Health Department and the UW- Eau Claire County Extension office. The Elder Advocate recruits elderly participants and recruits and train volunteers. Assessing and collecting pre and post assessments of program participants. The Elder Advocate provides case management to elders in Wellness Days which may include assisting elders to access community services and health care providers and/or assisting elders with other miscellaneous services as needed.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of social work, sociology, psychology, education or other human services related field preferred. Previous work with Hmong elders desired. Bilingual in Hmong and English required. Knowledge of community resources is preferred. The ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes honesty, integrity and cooperation with clients, co-workers, management and the general public is needed. Must have own transportation and motor vehicle insurance and be comfortable driving a passenger van.

Hours:

Position is 25-30 hours weekly, limited term employment that may change based on funding. Must be available weekly for one full days (Fridays). Nights and weekends is also required as needed. Flexible schedule is required as program schedule may change.

Salary: $10.50+ depending on experience.
