Position: Community Liaison and Wellness Days Coordinator

 

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Paraprofessional

Status: Nonexempt

 

Position Summary: This position encompasses two programs, the Community Liaison program and Wellness Days for Hmong Elders (Wellness Days). The goal of the Community Liaison (CL) is to increase crime awareness in the Hmong community and to bridge the culture divide at the city level by providing culturally sensitive services to the Hmong community. The role of the CL is to assist the ECPD and the ECAHMAA when appropriate in decreasing crime in the areas of domestic violence, gang involvement, theft and other petty crimes, and helping the Hmong community understand laws, regulations, and ordinances within the Eau Claire City. The CL works closely with other social services providers when appropriate to make sure that services are provided to individuals and or families in a culturally sensitive manner. 50 percent of the coordinator’s time is allocated to this program.

 

Wellness Days is a program aimed at mitigating the social isolation of Hmong elders by providing exercise, survival English training, and physical and mental education. The Coordinator coordinates the weekly Wellness Days session by collaborating with community partners such as the City-County Health Department and the UW-Eau Claire County Extension office. The Coordinator recruits elderly participants and recruits and train volunteers. Pre and post assessments of program participants are an essential element of Wellness Days. The Coordinator is responsible for collecting these assessments in a timely fashion. 50 percent of the coordinator’s time is allocated to this program.

 

The Community Liaison/Wellness Days Coordinator also assists agency staff with walk-in clients; relieve the Office Manager/other staff with front desk assignments and agency events planning. The Community Liaison/Wellness Days Coordinator’s job is to fulfill the objectives outlined in the programs while focusing on the mission and vision of ECAHMAA.

 

Qualifications: A BA/BS in a human services related field OR a combination of relevant education, employment and/or life experience is preferred. At least 1 year of professional/community experiences working with the Hmong/Southeast Asian. Previous work with Hmong families and Hmong elders desired. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of the ramifications and impact of the refugee experience on families and communities. Bilingual in Hmong and English required. Knowledge of community resources is preferred. The ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes honesty, integrity and cooperation with clients, co-workers, management and the general public is needed. Must have own transportation, motor vehicle insurance and be comfortable driving a 12 passenger van. Must be a team player and demonstrate a willingness to positively contribute to the growth and development of ECAHMAA’s mission and values.

 

Hours: This is a full time position at 40 hours weekly. The ability to work flexible hours is necessary with the majority of hours to be worked Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Duties may require working some nights and weekends to accommodate organizational or program needs and must have prior approval and/or be assigned by the Executive Director. Travel may be required as needed.

Position: Office Associate

 

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Paraprofessional

Status: Nonexempt

 

Position Summary: The Office Associate position is to provide administrative assistance to the Executive Director and to agency staff with programming needs. Duties may include but is not limited to clerical work, client intake, providing supportive paraprofessional services, organizing event, office supplies inventory, data collection, program support and/or duties as designated by the Executive Director.

 

Qualifications: A high school diploma is required as well as a combination of relevant employment and or life experience. Bilingual in spoken Hmong and English is required. Prefer both spoken and written bilingual skills. The ability to provide excellent customer service to clientele is essential as the Office Assistant will be the first point of contact with clients, partner agencies and/or funders. Ability to maintain client confidentiality is required. Ability to maintain and practice professionalism under stress is required. Experience with crisis intervention and knowledge of community resources is desired. Proficiency with productivity software such as Microsoft Word is preferred. The ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes honesty, integrity and cooperation with clients, co-workers, management and the general public is needed. Must be a team player and demonstrate a willingness to positively contribute to the growth and development of ECAHMAA’s mission and values.

 

Hours: This position is part time between 10 to 15 hours per week. The ability to work flexible hours is necessary with the majority of hours to be worked Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Evenings and weekends may be required for assistance with programming and agency events.  Student should be available on Fridays between the hours of 9am-2pm to assist with the Wellness Days for Hmong Elders Program.

 

Rate or Range of Pay per Hour: $8.25-$9.50

 

Begin and End Dates: September 2015 to June 2016 (with break during winterm).

 

Total Hours/Week: 10-15 hours.

Position: Youth Coordinator

 

Reports to: Executive Director

Classification: Paraprofessional

Status: Nonexempt

 

Position Summary: The Youth Coordinator (YC) works with Hmong teens to reduce and prevent teen dating, domestic violence, and drugs and alcohol use by focusing on healthy alternatives with youths the Building Bridges Program. The project provides services to assist Hmong teens in providing early prevention education to strengthening family relationships, reduce domestic violence in the home, and provide support services to teens. This project’s focus is aimed at reducing violence by providing early preventative education.

 

Qualifications: A BA/BS in a human services related field OR a combination of relevant education (beginning social work, education, or other human service related field students), employment and/or life experience is preferred. Bilingual in English and Hmong, both spoken and written, is preferred. Experience working with Hmong youths and knowledge of teen dating or domestic violence helpful. Knowledge of community resources is preferred. Prior experience working with a diverse population in a social service setting is required. Proficiency with productivity software such as Microsoft Word is preferred. The ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes honesty, integrity and cooperation with clients, co-workers, management and the general public is needed. Must be a team player and demonstrate a willingness to positively contribute to the growth and development of ECAHMAA’s mission and values

 

Hours: This position is part time at 10 hours per week. The ability to work flexible hours is necessary, with the majority of hours to be worked Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Candidate must be able to work Wednesday evenings from 4-8:30pm. Duties may require working some nights and weekends to accommodate organizational or program needs and must have prior approval and or be assigned by the Executive Director. Travel may be required.

 

Rate or Range of Pay per Hour: $8.25-$9.50

 

Begin and End Dates: September 2015 to June 2016 (with break during winterm, and between the second week of May through first week of June- program break in May for the summer with a youth leadership camp in June).

 

Work Schedule-Days and Hours: Wednesday evenings from 4-8 required for programming. Other day of the week is flexible depending on student’s school schedule.

 

Total Hours/Week: 10 hours.
